Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere

magnifying glassMantle of the Expert is a system that uses enquiry and dramatic imagination to create powerful contexts for learning.

It was developed by Dorothy Heathcote and set out in her collaborative work with Gavin Bolton, ‘Drama for Learning’ in 1994.

Children love to play, and purposeful imaginative play lies at the centre of the Mantle of the Expert approach.

For children, imagining how to be someone else, doing something else and seeing the world though someone else’s eyes, is as natural as eating and breathing.

Mantle of the Expert (MoE) provides a system for harnessing this natural inclination to play and to imagine. It develops confidence, creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.

With the teacher as co-worker children are free to carry out their own independent research, to begin to put together their own theories and new thinking. They begin to see the usefulness of learning and to take responsibility for what and how they learn.
